A healthy, 24-year-old woman to be euthanised in Belgium.

The Belgian euthanasia insanity continues with the case of a 24-year-old healthy woman (Laura) who will die by euthanasia this summer for psychological reasons.

The June 19 DeMorgen article by Simone Maas explains (google translated):

She has good friends, loves good coffee and theater. And she has felt that she wanted to die ever since childhood. Laura (24): "Life, that's not for me." This summer, euthanasia will end her life full of inner conflict, depression and self-destruction.
I met the West Flemish Laura at the presentation of the book 'Libera me' euthanasia for psychological reasons. Writer Lieve Thienpont is one of the psychiatrists who gave Laura a positive opinion for euthanasia.
Godelieva De Troyer
Euthanasia for psychological reasons is done when a psychiatrist agrees that the psychological pain that a person is experiencing cannot be relieved in a way that the individual finds acceptable.

That means, Laura may be treatable, but Laura has decided that the only acceptable "treatment" is death.

Similar to the euthanasia deaths of Godelieva De Troyer (64), a healthy Belgian woman who was living with depression or Ann G (44) who asked for euthanasia for psychological pain after being sexually exploited by her psychiatrist, who was treating her for Anorexia, Laura has been approved for lethal injection, even though she is physically healthy and only 24-years-old.

In March, the chairman of the federal euthanasia commission in Belgium admitted that 50 to 60 euthanasia deaths are done on psychiatric patients each year.

Similar cases are occurring in the Netherlands, where a report indicated there were 42 euthanasia deaths for psychiatric reasons and 97 euthanasia deaths for people with dementia in 2013.

Canadians should be concerned.

On February 6, the Supreme Court of Canada struck down Canada's assisted suicide law. The Supreme Court decision allowed assisted dying for people who experience physical or psychological pain.

Similar to Belgium and the Netherlands, the Supreme Court indicated that assisting death for psychological reasons could be based on personal subjective reasons.

The Euthanasia Prevention Coalition is urging the federal government to establish a committee to properly examine the issues and to use the notwithstanding clause to Give us time to legislative on assisted suicide.

A message posted on the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition facebook page:
This is horrible. Things can change. I have schizophrenia, bipolar, anxiety etc. I felt like this when I was her age, but I am so glad I did not. There is always hope even when it seems hopeless. That light at the end of the tunnel is not necessarily a train. If Canada had a law like this one in Belgium, I would not be here. I pray that she does not follow through with this. This is a permanent solution to what could be a treatable problem. There are always new medications coming out. I really hope she reconsider her decision.

Hello Alex, I just read the message tonight about Laura who will die this summer. It made me terribly sad. 3 years ago I lived with the same terrible depression as Laura and I wanted to die. Today I'm new and most happy that I'm still living. I lived the same despair and 3 years later I'm doing perfectly well. Edouard Elens

I came to my office this morning and the first thing I read was about Laura being granted the right to die, and totally changed my mood and determination to finish my end-of-the-month work. I have been reading different blogs and I am glad to see that not everyone is in favor of this. I suffer from depression as well and it helps me to see I am not alone and that many of us with similar circumstances have coped and overcame this sickness. I am glad for all of you and I liked reading about your successful tries. However, I have yet to read anything about getting in touch with Laura and see if by any miracle she can be helped by those of us who have been there and not by some fool with a degree who has no clue what she is suffering. I myself am an educated man but that doesn't mean we know about the many circumstances different people encounter. Perhaps a few of us do but certainly not those doctors giving Laura--and many like her--the green light to depart this beautiful life, however harsh it may be at times. If any of you, readers, has any information on how this young lady can be contacted (Directly or indirectly) and offer her a ray of hopeful light, please let us all know. Laura, there are many of us suffering from the same or similar condition as the result of same or similar circumstances. I hope this message finds its way to you and conveys the deep admiration we (The depressed club LOL!) have for someone like you to have made it this far in life, and for you NOT to give up on life and NOT give up on all of those you can influence to change their lives. I have been there, Laura, and there were many times I thought of doing the same. I have fallen in love and my heart has been shattered. I have kids and the agony of not being with their mother has plunged me into an even deeper dungeon that I, even in my depressed state, have the confidence in getting out of. I have seen my beloved USMNT defeated during the World Cup as well as George Lukas commit the atrocities in the last three Star Wars installments but there is still hope for us all!! Forgive my humor in this but laughter is a great medicine we can all enjoy without prescription.
Life is beautiful and not all hope is lost. I know that there are times where everything seems okay and one can be in the middle of something fun and happy, when it suddenly hits you and emptiness engulfs you to a point where the logical thinking at the time is to not exist. I know this!!! Unfortunately, as humans, our first reaction when moments of despair are overbearing is to want to die but that is not who we really are. We live in a harsh world at times but we are also resilient creatures who can count on those who legitimately care for those we love and also care for those complete strangers like yourself. We have the ability to turn a great negative into something positive; to use this energy for something so great to, not only help ourselves, but to help each other and create a synergy to draw inner strength from and find that sanctuary we can return to when we feel defeated. I do this constantly and I realize the world isn't that harsh at all. Bring it on!

Euthanasia is not a solution to depression. It simply ends a life. Jesus came to give life, and with that life, giving hope that even the worst depressions can be healed. Those professionals who elect a patient who is already vulnerable for death by assisted means are no better than those who practiced the worst eugenic atrocities in the war. They have no solution, so eliminate the problem.
Sadly, and increasingly, the law is now no protection against "legal" murder.
First it was unwanted babies, then it was the physically sick, Now it is old people and mentally sick people.
And, all this time, the Father in heaven reaches out with a gospel of hope.
Laura - the moment you give your life to Jesus, you will know instant relief, and where there was depression, hope will flood your soul. Don't let them take you out. You have an amazing future.
