There were approximately 17,700 Canadian euthanasia deaths in 2025.Alex Schadenberg
Canada will surpass 100,000 deaths by mid-late April 2026.
Executive Director,
The Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario recently released the 2025 (MAiD) euthanasia data indicating that there were 5303 reported euthanasia deaths in Ontario in 2025 which was up by almost 7.3% from 4,944 reported euthanasia deaths in 2024. Ontario represents 38.9% of Canada's population.
The data indicates that, as of December 31, 2025, there were 28,637 Ontario euthanasia deaths since legalization. Grimsby Ontario has a similar population.
Alberta Health Services also released its 2025 (MAiD) euthanasia data indicating that there were 1,242 reported euthanasia deaths in Alberta which was up by more than 11% from 1,117 in 2024. Alberta represents 11.8% of Canada's population.
The data indicates that, as of December 31, 2025, there were 6,273 Alberta euthanasia deaths since legalization. Bonnyville Alberta has a similar population.Health Canada released their Sixth Annual Report on Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada on November 28, 2025 (2024 data) which indicated a 6.9% increase from the Fifth Annual report (2023 data). For the purpose of this article I will refer to it as the 2024 report.
According to the Sixth Annual Report, from legalization until December 31, 2024 there were 76,475 reported (MAiD) euthanasia deaths in Canada. Therefore from legalization until December 31, 2025 there were approximately 94,175 euthanasia deaths.
Based on this data I predict that Canada will surpass 100,000 euthanasia deaths sometime in mid - late April 2026.
Join the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition on Monday April 13 at 12 noon on parliament hill as we support the passage of Bill C-218, the bill that would prevent euthanasia for mental illness alone, and as we mourn 100,000 Canadian euthanasia deaths.

ReplyDeleteI’ve been reading through the 6th Annual Report on Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada, submitted by the Government of Canada. There is a statement under section 2.2 - MAiD Provisions, that I need help with some clarification.
I quote from the document:
As stated by the World Health Organization, a "cause of death" is the disease or injury that initiated the train of events leading directly to death, or the circumstances of the accident or violence which produced the fatal injury.
MAID, by contrast, is a health service provided as part of end-of-life or complex care, which a person can access in very limited circumstances (i.e., if they meet the strict eligibility criteria outlined in the legislation, including having a "grievous and irremediable medical condition," described in greater detail in Section 3.1). For example, if a person suffering from advanced cancer chooses to receive MAID to alleviate their suffering at the end of their life, the cause of death extracted from their death certificate for the purposes of vital statistics will be cancer.
Does this mean that the statistics the government is report do not indicate an accurate number of people who have received assisted death, because they have reported the cause of death as something else (i.e. a terminal disease)?
Canada lost 110,000 soldiers to both World Wars combined.
ReplyDeleteDear Paul: The reporting procedure is problematic because it requires the doctor to lie on the death certificate but that would not suggest under reporting.
ReplyDeleteI Would Believe Under Reporting DOES Occur Because Of Various Reasons And Of Course That Is Not Good! Also LYING CAUSING PROBLEMS And Is Not Good Either! EITHER WAY, THESE KILLING LAWS OF EUTHANASIA AND ASSISTED SUICIDE ARE ALREADY TOO FAR AND UNPLEASANT AS IT IS MEANT TO END SUFFERING IT CAUSES SUFFERING BECAUSE IT CAUSES THE VULNERABLE/SICK/DISABLED/INNOCENT TO BE FEARFUL IN A SOCIETY THAT DOES NOT VALUE THEM AND ABUSES THEM IN DEATH PRIOR TO ACKNOWLEDGING AND PROVIDING LIFE-PROVIDING CARE! IT IS UPSETTING THE HIGH NUMBERS ALREADY KILLED! AGE AND CONDITIONS SHOULD NOT MATTER BECAUSE EVERY LIFE IS VALUABLE SO THERE IS NO DISTINCTIONS BUT IT IS TROUBLESOME THAT MOST VICTIMS OF THIS KILLING ARE WHITE/CAUCASIAN RACE GIVEN THE OVERALL PERCENTAGE OF THAT RACE EXISTING SHOWS THAT WHOEVER IS WHITE THAT EXISTS IS BEING MURDERED BY THE GOVERNMENT! THE DISABLED, THE ELDERLY, THOSE WITH DEMENTIA, VETERANS, THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC NEED TO STOP HAVING THIS KILLING PROPOGANDA WHICH IS LIES PUSHED ON THEM AND CHANGE THE LAWS LIKE THE UN CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES AND ALBERTA LIKEN TO NOT ONLY REMOVE TRACK 2 MAID AND STOP EUTHANASIA FOR MENTAL ILLNESS ALONE BUT FOR THE ENTIRE CANADA TO REMOVE ALL KILLING LAWS FOR ALL REASONS INCLUDING LIFE-THREATENING AND END-OF-LIFE BECAUSE THERE ARE LIFE-PROVIDING METHODS OF CARE THAT WILL ELIMINATE SUFFERING WITHOUT PREMATURELY TERMINATING LIVES! TERMINATING PRECIOUS LIFE IS NOT AN ANSWER OR SOLUTION TO ANY CRISES! Bill C-218 NEEDS TO BE PASSED AND APPROVED AND THEN FROM THERE ON MORE BILLS NEEDS TO BE MADE LAWS TO AGAIN REINSTATE MAID AND EUTHANASIA AS LEGALLY HOMICIDE WHICH IT IS BECAUSE OF DANGEROUS-POISONING-TO-DEATH WHICH IT ENTAILS BACK IN TO THE CRIMINAL CODE WHERE IT BELONGS BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST HUMAN RIGHTS AS ABUSIVE POLICY AND 100,000 DEATHS IS OFFENSIVE, CREEPY AND OBJECTIONABLE AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE EVER REACHED THIS POINT! EVEN 1 DEATH IS TOO MUCH!!! IT HAS ALL GONE OVERBOARD AND IS UNFAIR TO THE CITIZENS OF CANADA!
