Executive Director - Euthanasia Prevention Coalition
A Chinese man, Li Zhihua from Xiangyang in Hubei Province, woke up from a 5 year Coma thanks to his wife literally caring for him night and day.
Tracy You reported on August 22 for the Mailonline:
According to reports, Mr Li was knocked down by a motorbike in August, 2013, while riding a scooter to work.According to the article, his loving wife was persistent.
Describing his condition, Dr Wan Qing'an told reporters: 'When he was taken to the hospital, he was in a vegetative state. He could not respond to anything.'
His wife, 57-year-old Zhang Guihuan, recalled: 'The doctor told me it was possible that he would be in a persistent vegetative state.'
She said she was not willing to accept the diagnosis and wanted to prove the doctors wrong.
Day in day out, the determined spouse stayed next to Mr Li's bed to chat with him and play his favourite songs, hoping his condition would improve. This story shows how love can lead someone to provide care. In this case, her care enabled her husband to recover.
'These things were very helpful to stimulate his nervous system,' Dr Wan said.
The strong-willed woman slept only two to three hours a day and looked after Mr Li in every aspect possible. As a result, she lost 10 kilograms (22 pounds) during the course.
Ms Zhang said in order to feed her husband, she had to carefully put food into his month and then gently pressed his tongue to let him know that he could eat.
Mr Li miraculously regained his conscious last year.
This case also shows how providing stimulation and care may lead to someone recovering from a head injury.
In 2004 I attended a conference on Persistent Vegetative State whereby a doctor who ran an "awakening center" spoke about what they did to have such a high success rate in awakening patients in coma.
Talk about love! Thank you to our Creator for acting through & with this heart-warming woman!
ReplyDeleteI've seen youtubes in which coma patients have woken up after like 20 years of being in coma. After many years of coma, one woman sat right up & I think asked to watch , "I love Lucy" on T.V.! There are multitudes of extreme miracles happening on this planet. Maybe it is time we all "woke up"! Many Christian preachers are praying for people, with extremely high rates of miraculous healings. Personally, I don't believe there is any totally negative being, or any eternal hell for any individual. I believe our Creator is in each & every one of us. We could not blink an eye or take a breath without our Creator being within us. And, our Over-the-Top- Powerful Creator's Love Magnet is so strong that eventually EVERY knee will bow. But, even though I may view reality differently than many preachers, check out "Alph Lukau" & "Sid Roth" on youtube. Peace!
I am really moved. China gives people the freedom to choose life. The western countries are hypocrites leaving people with no choice to choose life.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if China gives its people any freedom, per se, but I must admit that this story does provide an example of human love and commitment. She cared for her husband, and in fact was the reason for his recovery.
ReplyDeleteAlex, I agree with you re China, and also about the value and importance of love AND commitment. Love not as a wishy-washy sentiment, but as requiring real dedication and day-in-day-out turning up and doing what needs to be done.
ReplyDeleteQuite possibly not from your own perspective, but from "the outside looking in", I see your own work with euthanasia prevention as very much the same attitude and commitment as in this story. You have been an advocate now for 20 years (plus?) and despite what some might think, say, and put forward as expert opinion - you have hung in there day-by-day and worked for concern, care, and life. If there is "recovery" (even repentance) of life where some believe there is no point in life, then much of that is due to you exerting your own love and commitment (and the love of Christ, I daresay).
Where can we get more details of this story, eg. was this man in a hospital all this time or was his wife allowed to keep him at hme, how was he after he 'woke up', was he aware of anything while he was in a coma?
ReplyDeleteI too came out of a coma. I was comatose only 2and a half weeks. I had to relearn to eat with fork an knife as well as walk and dress myself. This man still has a long road ahead of him. I was told that when one comes out of a coma the individual goes through every life stage again upto his biological age be it at a accelerated pace. That was true for me and others I have met and read about . I wish this man and his wife all the best. Pete
ReplyDeleteThis woman is remarkable in caring for her husband 20 years. That is like Jesus Christ who gave his life for mankind. He died to ransom us from condemnation and sin. This wife gave all she had and made a sacrifice of love to her husband whom she made a promise to in marriage. It would be an amazing story to read or put into a movie. Was her husband picking up on her conversations with him? Love conquers.
ReplyDeleteGreat. All we nees is love. Everywhere and always.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! His wife is magnificent for her devotion and love. If the man were in the West, where medical killing (euthanasia, assisted suicide, etc.) is increasing, he would have been dead five years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat a powerful beautiful story of faith, patience & love This is truly a miracle. An inspiration of virtues for all of us to strive for.

There are evil beings called Lucifer and his other devils. If you don't believe this, watch the true story, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." And there is a hell. God does not send anyone there. People send themselves either by hating God or by ignoring Him. Living faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior is what saves us. We have to following Him everyday. Living faith gives birth to good works that help people. The faith saves us but it has to be living faith. Faith without works is dead and has no power to save.
