The "close quotes" at the end of the first paragraph indicates that the quote is finished, and thus the next paragraph is part of the writer's analysis/comment. <br />I stand corrected, and am grateful for you taking the time to explain. My apologies for the misunderstanding, and please keep me on the list as a member of EPC.<br />Kate Kelly<br /><br /><br />Kate Kellynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9216787076261944467.post-26295702397836792142022-05-16T16:41:38.292-04:002022-05-16T16:41:38.292-04:00You are confusing the National Post's editoria...You are confusing the National Post's editorial with my comments. That is exactly the argument that was used to start this madness.<br />May I remind you that, before Canada legalized assisted suicide and euthanasia, Canadian doctors already had the right and duty to relieve suffering, even if it resulted in shortening the patient's life. It was the INTENT of the treatment that determined the doctor's actions - to relieve intolerable suffering when there was no hope of any other mitigating treatment and no hope for curing the patient.<br /><br />The purpose of giving such life-and-death power to doctors was solely to relieve suffering. It was NOT to accede to the wishes of the patient - or anyone else - to kill!<br /> So, Alex, If this is the new position/philosophy of EPC, please remove my name from your membership list. <br />Kate KellyKate Kellynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9216787076261944467.post-42556556742074691682022-05-10T09:26:54.709-04:002022-05-10T09:26:54.709-04:00Dear Elizabeth.

I’m not so proud anymore, just disgusted and worried. In 2013 to 2015 I was successfully treated for cancer and now only checked annually. When the cancer returns will treatment be offered ? Can I trust my doctor, who is now licensed to kill? Is it time to leave as this is “no country for old men”.David Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01090811636151386759noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9216787076261944467.post-14328818210985204472022-05-09T22:46:21.554-04:002022-05-09T22:46:21.554-04:00How could anyone really be surprised at how far ou...How could anyone really be surprised at how far out of hand this has gotten? Or maybe it's only obvious to those of us who have been willing to look at what's happened in the Netherland and Belgium, for example. In some ways I don't think Canadians are really willing to look squarely at what's going on. Note the way we rely on the banal-sounding acronym MAiD or the widespread use of "assisted suicide" for something that is the opposite of suicide or the way the media finds any way to talk about the subject without saying the words "euthanasia" or "killing". All of it is a way to avoid looking honestly at what's going on. Witness the fact that no revelations of abuse give pause to those who maintain that euthanasia is an absolute right. I'm not optimistic enough to think that we are anywhere near the point where the the pro-euthanasia side is going to reconsider where we've gone or are going. In fact, I fear we will never reach that point.Chucknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9216787076261944467.post-71474752464279026672022-05-09T18:26:50.996-04:002022-05-09T18:26:50.996-04:00This reads like a script from a ghastly sci-fi wor...This reads like a script from a ghastly sci-fi world.
