He was on life support for several weeks. The doctors were applying pressure on the family to disconnect and said that even if he woke up that he would be in a vegetative state. Although religious, the family made the difficult decision to not prolong his life and were in the process of making funeral arrangements. Another family member then asked the family to hold off just a little longer. This family member asked the nurse in the intensive care unit to reduce the amount of morphine they were administering. She asked the nurse: “How can you really know if he could wake up, when he is so sedated?”. (That is a very good question that everyone should be asking if ever in that situation.) She said she would only cut back on the morphine if someone stayed next to him to control any “involuntary reflex movement” so that he would not get disconnected, or for any cords to be pulled. This family member stayed with him around the clock. As the morphine wore off he was starting to make movement. It was definitely not ”involuntary”! After 48 hours he opened his eyes and completely came out of his coma! He has absolutely NO BRAIN DAMAGE. He was in the hospital for an additional two weeks and was then released. He is completely back to normal! This occurred 3 years ago and he is now 75 years old. He is alive and well, he drives, dances, and most importantly, is enjoying his family. As he plays with his grandchildren and enjoys life we know he feels grateful for that family member that was not afraid to take a chance and do everything in her power to save him. When the family asked the doctors: ”how could this have happened, that you could have been so wrong”, they answered “ "We have absolutely no medical explanation!”FairCareCanadahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05631631932357621638noreply@blogger.com
