Bill C-314 is published below:
BILL C-314: An Act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying)

Preamble;

Whereas Parliament considers it a priority to ensure that adequate supports are in place for the mental health of Canadians;

Whereas Parliament considers that vulnerable Canadians should receive suicide prevention counselling rather than access medical assistance in dying;

Whereas Parliament considers that Canada’s medical assistance in dying regime risks normalizing assisted dying as a solution for those suffering from a mental disorder;

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Criminal Code
1 Subsection 241.‍2(2.‍1) of the Criminal Code is replaced by the following:

Exclusion
(2.‍1) For the purposes of subsection (2) a mental disorder is not a grievous and irremediable medical condition.

Please contact your Member of Parliament and say that you support Bill C-314 that prohibits euthanasia for mental illness alone.

The
Angus Reid Institute conducted a poll that was published on February 13, 2023 concerning Canada's current (MAiD) euthanasia law indicated that,
for mental health as a sole condition, 51% of Canadians were opposed, 31% supported and 18% were unsure.

Another poll conducted by Researchco found that 43% of Canadians support euthanasia for mental illness.

If Bill C-314 passes, euthanasia for mental illness will be prohibited in Canada.

Thankyou Ed Fast for your work on this tragic issue- life is sacred- every hour of every day! Please can we as a society focus on helping treat, alleviate and prevent suffering rather than adding to it?!

Thank you Honourable member Ed Fast for attempting to add some somber second thought to this “progressive approach” ( clearly not ) to mental health … more “efficient” to kill off the treatment failures OR those who have not even attempted every avenue of treatment … is Maid now a cost saving tool wiellded by a misguided government?

Thank you for your hard work!

Thank you. Please argue the issue that family caregivers of children with mental health issues need help and support to deal with preventing suffering loved ones from attempting suicide. This is a constant reality and fear for parents with children who have schizophrenia for example. These children become adult children in the blink of an eye.

Absolutely. There is also a chilling effect on encouraging children and adults to seek mental health professionals. If they are in the midst of a crisis and ask a doctor for MAid in the process of getting help, the person could potentially be killed. A wonderful psychiatrist said to her suicidal patient who had asked for MAiD, “I am a life doctor, not a death doctor”

I live with a mental illness and I think we have the right to live with support not die because we are ‘inconvenient’. The Canadian government should just stop pretending that they care.
